Bilic Reveals That Dimitri Payet Is Desperate To Leave West Ham

"We are not going to sell him."

West Ham maestro Dimitri Payet, who looks a bit like Punky the ice cream penguin from holidays, has revealed that he wants the leave the East London club.

According to The Guardian, manager Slaven Bilic has revealed that he feels "let down" and "angry" by the midfielder's decision. Payet, 29, who only signed a contract in February, isn't training with the club and will not feature in the game against Crystal Palace this weekend.

"We have said we don't want to sell our best players but Payet does not want to play for us. He wants to leave," Bilic said.

"He's definitely our best player and that's why we gave him a long contract. We are not going to sell him. This team, the staff, we gave him everything, we were always there for him. I feel let down. I feel angry. I spoke to the chairman and this is not a money issue. We gave him a long contract because we want him to stay.

"We aren't going to sell him, not whatsoever. It's not a money issue or anything. We want to keep our best players."

It's hard to imagine that Bilic would refuse a big money offer from a Chinese club, as has been rumoured, but the question is whether or not Payet would be willing to leave a competitive European league for the riches of the Super League.

He won't be short of offers from European clubs, with Arsenal and PSG reportedly the most interested parties, but it's difficult to see them meeting the club's reported £35 million valuation – especially as he turns 30 in March.

Whatever the outcome, it's going to be an entertaining battle of wills.
