Her name is Rumor, she is a five-year-old German Shepherd from Wisconsin and she is officially the best dog in America.
Playing to a packed crowd in New York's Madison Square Garden, a hallowed venue that is more synonymous with prize fights and basketball, Rumor took the top prize at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show, an event that has been running since 1877.
Named after the Adele song "Rumour Has It", she was in retirement until a last-minute entry, but managed to triumph in a field that featured 2,798 entries in 202 breeds and varieties drawn from 49 states.
"The German shepherd standard talks about quality and nobility," said Thomas H Bradley III, the veteran judge (with a name to match) who assessed the final. "When you recognise it, it hits you at home, and that's what it really is.
"She is just magnificent."
Rumor, whose official champion's name is Lockenhaus' Rumor Has It V Kenlyn, will now truly head for retirement, with her breeder, co-owner and handler, Kent Boyles saying: "She's got an awesome attitude and a lot of beautiful details about her.
"She really enjoys showing."
