So Nanna, how did Katy Perry get in touch?

Oh land On Twitter, 2011-style! She started tweeting me and I started tweeting back.

Were you sure it was really her?

Yeah, because she had, like, seven and a half million followers.

Good point. Who was your pop icon as a kid?

I listened to lots of classical growing up because my dad was an organist and my mum was an opera singer, but we had old Beatles vinyls. I was obsessed with John Lennon. I had the round glasses and stuff.

Your mum thought you should be a dancer. Why was that?

I couldn’t sit still on a chair. I had to stand on my head or do the splits. My mum thought ballet classes would make me use up some energy. I was very naughty — I’d make up clubs and we’d do naughty stuff, like go witch-hunting.

What is it with you Scandinavians and the supernatural?

Fairytales are very much part of our culture. It was not until I turned 12 that I realised there weren’t trolls in the forest. And actually, I still kind of believe there are.

Your is pretty technical. Where did you learn that stuff?

I studied electronic composition. It was really geeky, learning about sound waves, air molecules, the anatomy of the ear. It was useful but I dropped out because things were taking off — it was like, “That’s so cool, I’ve spent the last two months building my own sequencer.” And then I thought, “I could have written 30 songs!”

When you play live, do you notice a lot of guys at the front?

There are generally lots of girls at shows, but also guys who seem interested in the production. Our set-up is very technically advanced, triggering stuff from iPads.

So they’re not looking at the gorgeous girl, just her laptop?

I think probably a bit of both.

Oh Land’s single “White Nights” is out now. Her self-titled album will be out in September
