Before his drawling-on-the-verge-of-drooling turn on Top Gear, Matt LeBlanc achieved stardom playing Joey Tribbiani on Friends – but, as it turns out, he wasn't the only one in contention for the role.

Apparently, Vince Vaughn was turned down by casting director Ellie Janner in 1994. It was probably for the best – the actor starred as a Joey-esque womanizer two years later in Swingers, and his version (Trent) was a whole lot more sinister than LeBlanc's well-meaning buffoon.

But the Swingers connection doesn't stop there. Apparently Jon Favreau, who wrote and starred in the film, also turned down a role in Friends, as Joey's down-on-his-luck best mate Chandler Bing – and ended up playing a similar character in the film (albeit with less wisecracks and more ennui).

Favreau did end up starring in Friends eventually, playing a deluded MMA fighter Pete Becker in the show's third season.
