When former soldier Alexander Blackman, AKA Marine A, was freed from prison after a tireless campaign from his wife Claire, the dollar sign eyes of Hollywood were set to spin.
And now, according to Blackman's lawyer Jonathan Goldberg QC, an upcoming film based on the trial could feature a star-studded cast including Tom Hardy, Al Pacino and Kate Winslet.
He said on Sky News: "I was out there [Hollywood] two weeks ago to discuss it - there's talk even of Kate Winslet to play Claire and Tom Hardy playing him and Al Pacino playing me, can you believe it."
He also told the Telegraph: "Once they are fully decompressed I will meet them and we will discuss the interesting meeting I just had in Hollywood at the invitation of a famous producer from which it is clear that a major movie could be in the offing if they wish it."
Blackman, 42, was sentenced to a life behind bars for shooting a Taliban fighter in Afghanistan in 2013. But his wife Claire and the Daily Mail fought for his early release, and he ultimately only served half of a seven year manslaughter charge.
Hardy's played a number of military roles in the past, including an early appearance in 2001's Band of Brothers and a starring role in Christopher Nolan's upcoming World War Two epic Dunkirk.
