Celebrity lookalikes are normally circus mirror versions of their supposed dopplegangers: part of the fun is how much they resemble them while actually looking nothing like them at all.
Not so in the case of Iranian student Reza Parastesh whose face is so identical to Barcelona forward Lionel Messi, it's actually a little unnerving – not to mentioned borderline criminal.
This week the 25-year-old's resemblance to the Greatest Footballer Of All Time™ almost landed him in jail when he walked through the Iranian city of Hamedan and 'disrupted public order' because so many people rushed to get a selfie with him. The poor lad was bundled to a station by the police and even had his car impounded to clear the traffic.
While the real Lionel Messi lives a gilded life making millions of pounds a month playing football to an adoring crowd, you may assume being his non-rich twin would prove something of a curse, but the happy news is that Parastesh is, apparently, settling into the whole business.
After his Dad pressured him to embrace the genetic fluke, cut his hair like Messi and buy a Barc shirt Parastesh has been inundated with media requests and modeling contracts.
"Now people really see me as the Iranian Messi and want me to mimic everything he does. When I show up somewhere, people are really shocked," Parastesh told the Metro.
"'I'm really happy that seeing me makes them happy and this happiness gives me a lot of energy," he added.
He added that his goal is to learn a few football tricks and one day meet Messi for real, at which point presumably there would be a tear in the time space continuum and we'd all be sucked into a parallel universe via a giant black hole in the sky.
"Being the best player in footballing history, he definitely has more work than he can handle. I could be his representative when he is too busy" Parastesh mused.
That's if he can avoid jail in the meantime, of course.
