Theresa May "Burst Into Tears" As Election Results Came In, Claims Newspaper Report

One of her staff was "physically sick", apparently

Theresa May was widely criticised over the election campaign for appearing 'robotic', so conversely it might win her a degree a sympathy to hear that, according to one newspaper report, she reacted to Thursday's result by "bursting into tears".

The Mirror is claiming to have spoken to an 'insider' who was there to witness the aftermath of the Prime Minister's failed snap election at Tory HQ, where an expected improved majority disintegrated into a hung parliament after a disastrous campaign.

The Labour-leaning tabloid alleges that May sat in "stony-faced silence" when the exit poll was announced at 10pm, "took a minute to say anything" when it became clear she'd lost her majority and at one point was in tears – all fairly understandable reactions to taking a massive public gamble and watching it backfire spectacularly.

Elsewhere the Mirror's story claims one Tory staff member was "physically sick" when the results became clear.

The PM's attempts to patch together a minority government with the support of the DUP continue this week, with her MPs reportedly poised to topple her should the negotiations go sour.
