Graeme Souness has transformed from a tough-tackling midfielder into a tough-talking commentator. The only thing that makes him angrier than a half-hearted challenge is the continued existence of Thierry Henry.

So when Jonjo Shelvey received a red card for stamping on Dele Alli's ankle over the weekend, people expected Souness to pour praise upon the Newcastle midfielder's 'dedication'.

But that wasn't the case. Instead, the former Liverpool manager said:

"He's annoyed because Alli has kept the ball. How stupid is that?" Souness asked.

Which surprised a lot of fans, considering Souness did something very similar, but much worse, while playing for Rangers against Steua Bucharest in 1966, stamping on Gheroghe Rotariu's leg in a European Cup match.
