Netflix Is Making A New Show About Nurse Ratched From 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest'

After a fierce bidding war, Netflix has secured the rights to a new drama series based on One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest's infamous Nurse Ratched.

The show, titled Ratched, will be centred on a younger version of the character, and has been picked up for two 18-episode seasons.

Netflix, Hulu and Apple competed for the show, which is set to air in mid-2018. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest producer Michael Douglas has already been enlisted to help out, and Louise Fletcher's character will be played by Sarah Poulson.

The series is being written by American Horror Story's Ryan Murphy and newcomer Evan Romansky, and will act as an origins story beginning in 1947. It will detail Ratched's progression through the mental heath care system, and the effect it has on her behaviour and ethics.
