A life lesson this week from Gary Lineker.

If you've done something pretty humiliating – let's say, for argument's sake, sh***ing yourself in the middle of the football match – your best approach is to own that s**t. Because you better believe, even 27 years later, people will be waiting for any excuse to remind you of it.

So it was when Salford goalkeeper Max Crocombe received a red for the similar (if undeniably lesser) crime of urinating during the final five minutes of his side's meeting with Bradford Park Avenue this weekend.

The shot stopper's 'discreet' wee was reported to the ref who promptly gave him his marching orders which - of course - delighted fans on Twitter.

There was only one place this go could go next, and Lineker knew it. So displaying the poacher's instinct that made him something of an effective striker back in the day, he pounced and slotted it away.

The shitting incident took place in 1990 during a World Cup game against Ireland, and was caught on camera in footage Lineker probably gets sent to him several times a day on Twitter, where he has become something of a leading light for liberal politics.

And jokes about sh***ing himself, of course. Plenty of those too.
