Top Five - Utterly ridiculous blogs

Most Popular

From the outset, the internet has been fertile ground for over-opinionated forum pirates, pyramid scammers and pictures of genitals drawn using punctuation.

Thankfully Youtube, Twitter and, "the blog" stepped in to save the day back in the mid-noughties. Now, what was once a comedic desert has been transformed is a veritable rainforest of hilarity (bar a few persistent scammers).

And what better than a community of millions with which to unite in a communal piss-take? There is something truly wonderful about those blogs which manage to consistently brighten our day by simple virtue of their ludicrousness. Here are five of our favourites.

Art - (Above) Once an overlooked art form, many argue that taxidermy ought join music, art, dance and drama in the pantheon of expressive mediums – though some, including artists Polly Morgan and Danielle van Ark would argue it already has.

The range of forms found in taxidermy is vast. You’ll probably be familiar with the classics of the genre – the trophy gazelle, the old-school decorative fox, and possibly the more modern, slightly unnerving, novelty stuffed crow. This website features some truly avant-garde creations – some might call them abominations of nature. Enjoy.

KIM JONG

Politics - Ok, so he’s got nuclear weapons and he takes pleasure in launching unprovoked military attacks, but its hard not to find Kim Jong-Il a little amusing. His past exploits include kidnapping South Korea’s greatest film-maker to force him to make artsy pro-communist propaganda, writing the political bestseller “Our Socialism centred on the Masses shall not Perish”, and giving a heart-rending performance of “I’m so Ronery” in Team America: World Police.

This blog highlights another of his hilarious facets – why is it that you only ever see him inspecting inanimate objects while wearing enormous sunglasses?

TAn1
TAN2
Grooming - This website combines a deeply troubling aspect of popular culture with people who are stupid enough to take it way, way too seriously. Fake tan is rarely endearing, especially when it comes slathered on to those who don’t know when to stop. These specimens aren’t quite as warped as their stuffed cousins in our ‘Art’ recommendation, but some of them come close.

ROss Kemp

Television - Celebrity. Should such an award ever be given, surely this subject would be the front-runner for the “Most often discussed by people talking crap” award. The web is full of sites on pointless slebs, and they’re usually rubbish. However, there is one that really raises the bar. Who thinks this stuff up? Find some photos of former Eastender and gangster’s mol Ross Kemp, fold them in various ways so that foreheads meet jawlines and ears meet nostrils. Publish the results.

Justin Bieber
Women - Despite the fact that he’s the most googled person on the planet, we would hope that Justin Bieber doesn’t register on your radar too regularly. This floppy-haired, Canadian pop prodigy looks like he’s two decades too late. This website, however, celebrates another aspect of his appearance – there are an uncanny number of the fairer sex who resemble him to a disturbing degree.
