What we're listening to - Jai Paul

It's not often we're utterly blown away by a brand new artist, particularly when his only tangible offering is a single demo on his Myspace page. A 21-year-old from Ravenscourt Park with the likes of Polydor hot on his heels, Jai Paul is almost duty-bound to make it big - and it's all thanks to his soaring inaugural track, "BTSTU".

From the moment Paul's flighty opening warbles float into your ear canal, it's clear it's going to be good, but it's only once the meaty, mechanical dubstep has kicked in that you know it's going to be mind-blowing - and even then, there's so much more. From the scribbled Crystal Castles-esque samples and immaculately-timed off beats, to gently cooed lyrics like "so don't try and fuck me about" and the occasional spark of saxophone or scratch of violin, this is a track with legs strong enough to take Jai Paul very far indeed.
