As World Cup fever hots up we caught up with ex-New Order and now Bad Lieutenant frontman Bernard Sumner – the man responsible for the best world cup anthem ever, World In Motion. With his Wayfarer shades, there’s a bit of the young Jack Lord (from Seventies cop show Hawaii Five 0) about him in the video, though Bernard says this wasn’t the original idea . . .

“I’d just returned from holiday and had got this drunken thought on the plane that I wanted to dress as Elvis in it. I was round Johnny Marr’s house when the outfit and wig arrived. I put it on and his two Alsatians – who were scary at the best of times – started going for me. I legged it out into my open top car and just drove off towards Anfield where we were shooting the video. As I got closer I got stuck in traffic and all the schools were turning out. I was getting so much abuse and stuff thrown at me that by the time I arrived it came straight off and I didn’t wear it in the video. It was a stupid idea anyway, what the fuck has Elvis got to do with football?
