We were alerted to the existence of Swedish popstar Erik Hassle by a breathless young music blogger, who guaranteed he was going to be this year's "big thing". The jury's still out — and when we play his album in the office it's met with both cheers and complaints of bleeding eardrums — but one thing you can't dispute is his look, half-Eraserhead, half-Morten Harket, a fact also appreciated by fashion designer-on-the-up, Martyn Bal.
Hassle, 21, was shot wearing pieces from Bal's Spring/Summer 2010 collection by photographer Richard Stow at Knebworth House. Bal, who worked his way up through Dior Homme, Versace and Burberry Prorsum, said he came across the singer in a copy of the NME, and was attracted by the "emotional soul" he intuited beneath the "steely, tattooed veneer of an east London boy". See if you can spot the emotional soul in his most recent single "Hurtful", after the pics. www.martynbal.com
