Want to get some inspiration for your next holiday? Look no further than LeRoy Grannis’ photography.
Starting out as a surfer back in 1931 at 14, LeRoy Grannis didn’t start taking pictures until he was 42. And he only did so because he was told by doctors to pick up a hobby, so Grannis built a darkroom in his garage and began taking pictures of the surfing scene he was involved in. He went the extra mile for his shots, making contraptions that allowed him to change film without leaving his board. His dedication meant he caught up close shots that many others didn’t. Considered one of the most important documenters of the sport, he was inducted into the Surfing hall of fame in 1966, eventually passing away in 2011.
This book showcases his best work and was previously only available in a highly exclusive (and expensive) limited edition. TASCHEN have now made it available from for the much more down to earth price of £8.99. It's something you'll read while taking in the current dire weather and planning for your sunny summer getaway.
