Iain Dale And 23 Seconds That Sum Up Everything About British Politics

It's all there.

Does this 23 second YouTube clip sum up everything about British politics?

That was the contention of journalist and author Ed Caesar, who made the call on Twitter today.

The footage captured the glorious moment that political blogger Iain Dale began silently grappling with an anti-nuclear protester called Stuart on a chilly Brighton seafront.

In front of them, the former Labour spin doctor Damian McBride – whose revealtory new book about the Gordon Brown government is being published by Dale – gives a television interview.

A former Conservative politician fighting an old, placade-wielding leftie is an obvious enough metaphor for the two party battle at the heart of British politics.

The fact they're forced into an eerily silent duel by the looming presence of the meda is also rather apt.

But when you consider how subdued the whole scene is, the fact no onlookers break it up or even appear surprised, you seem to have a fitting symbol for voter apathy as well.

When a school girl wanders into the scene and begins impulsively filming the whole thing on her mobile, you know Caesar is really onto something...
