No Stairway: World's Largest Guitar Museum To Open

Swedish town will house world's finest collection of rare and vintage axes

Already regarded in hairier music circles for having given the world hard-rocking acts like Refused, Cult of Luna and Final Exit, Umeå in Sweden, is set to become the home to arguably the finest collection of vintage guitars anywhere in the world.

When it opens in February 2014, Guitars: The Museum will house more than 500 rare and vintage axes, including a Gibson Les Paul Sunburst, a 1954 Fender Stratocaster, two Gibson Flying Vs and a 1950 Fender Broadcaster, the instrument of choice for Pink Floyd's David Gilmour.

The northern university town, whose other significant exports include author Stieg Larsson, is predicting a significant upswing in tourism, with the four-floor venue also being home to a music shop, venue, restaurant and bar, with room for 30,000 visitors a year.
