Ah, the pull of the cabin. A place where mod cons are few, people are nowhere to be seen and mobile phone reception is non-existent. Ideally in a place of raw, even bleak natural beauty, with a bottle of something strong and a dog-eared copy of a favourite novel on the side table.

It's a male cliché, of course, and many would go mad or starve after 24 hours but damn, it's good to dream.

The brilliant Cabin Porn blog has been collating photographs of remote hideaways from all over the world since March 2009, from rickety shacks in the Himalayas to functioning work stations in the mountains of New Zealand. The man behind it is Zach Klein who actually did what the rest of us only daydream about - he bought a plot of land north of New York started and began to build a community of cabins with friends that they called Beaver Brook, recording their progress as they went

News this week that the group are releasing a book on the subject somehow fits even better than the online record. If owning or even visiting one of these seems like a fantasy, contemplating these photographs in book form, in an armchair of course, at least come a close second.
