The List

Phallically-minded Album Covers

For their new record, Rize of the Fenix, out now, Tenacious D have gone for a winged, flaming cock and balls. And who can blame them, it’s a classic. Here are four more phallically minded album covers:

Alice Cooper, Love It To Death (1971)
It wasn’t actually a little penile nub but Alice Cooper’s thumb, sticking provocatively out of his cape. Still, looked rude enough to be airbrushed out of some versions.

The Rolling Stones, Sticky Fingers (1971)
No, it’s not Mick. It’s Joe Dallesandro: prostitute, Factory poppet, and “Little Joe” in Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” as dreamed up by Andy Warhol.

U2, Achtung Baby (1991)
Magnifying glasses at the ready for Anton Corbijn’s uncensored cover, which featured a teeny-weeny Adam Clayton and his teeny-weeny todger (all to scale of course).

Nirvana, Nevermind (1991)
Is a baby penis OK? Not sure; nor were Geffen Records, but Kurt Cobain insisted the kid’s wiener stay in the picture (and it beats his first idea: a shot of a water birth).

What do you think?
