Fox has given the Batman prequel TV pilot Gotham the go-ahead towards a full TV series.
Set before The Dark Knight rose and Batman begun, the series will follow a young Commissioner Gordon aiming to protect Gotham City, years before the caped crusaders stepped on the scene.
You shouldn’t worry if the realms of the superhero universe don’t entice you. Pitched as a cop-drama, we're hoping Gotham turns out to be more True Detective than Smallville.
Starring Ben Mckenzie (Southland, The O.C) as Com. James Gordon, the show will also feature younger incarnations of the iconic characters based within the DC universe, such as The Penguin, Poison Ivy and Catwoman.
Still no word on a little Robin. Yet.
The show is expected to run for at least 13 episodes when the show debuts at some time towards the end of the year.
