Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

Ghost Recon’s latest war game lets you play at being Predator (without the poor dentistry).

Right now, in a lab at New York’s Cornell University, research is being conducted into metamaterials, which will bend light around objects making them seem to disappear. At another — undisclosed — location, the US military is working on micro-LED threads that will absorb ambient colour and then mimic those same tones, going some way to behaving like a cloaking device.

Luckily for us, these scientists have decided to share some of their ideas with the developers of Ubisoft’s new shooter, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, which takes weaponry cues from military technologies.

Forget Harry Potter’s magic cape: “It's very much like Predator and his active camo," says Adrian Lacey, IP development director for Ubisoft Studios France. A preview of the game, along with its frenetic multiplayer missions, confirms that it will satisfy the trigger-fingered, who will be able to blur into the background, creep up behind an enemy and stick him before someone can shout “Get to da choppa!”

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is out 25 May on PS3 and Xbox 360 ghostrecon.us.ubi.com
