4 New Albums You Should Take On Your Holiday

Whatever you're into, we've got a suggestion

The Bangin' Album: Junto, by Basement Jaxx

Dust off your bongos! Swill out your vuvuzelas! After a five-year break, Basement Jaxx are back with a new album that’s full of belting soul vocals, big bouncy beats and uplifting choruses and will have you signing up for a Club 18–30 holiday to Magaluf – even though you’re 35.

(Atlantic Jaxx/Play It Again Sam), out 25 August

The Blissed-Out Album: The Dew Lasts An Hour, by Ballet School

On pure trendy points, hard to beat: an off-putting name, based in Berlin, loved by Grimes… These cats are hot! The music has an Eighties’ spaciousness, while singer Rosie Blair’s vocals have earned comparisons with everyone from Liz Fraser to Cyndi Lauper.

(Bella Union), out 25 August

The Rockin' Album: Benjamin Booker by Benjamin Booker

This New Orleans-based singer-songwriter mixes old-fashioned blues grit with a modern rock’n’roll swagger – to give you some idea, he cites Blind Willie Johnson and T Rex among his influences – though he favours the term “gospel punk” when describing his own sound. Amen to that.

The Psychedelic Album: Music, Die Schwer Zu Twerk by Electric Würms

The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne’s even wilder side-project, fronted by fellow Lipper Steve Drozd. It’s a technicoloured tripped-out, psyched-up tangerine dream; the title, in incorrect German, means “music that’s difficult to twerk to”. Earthlings need not apply.
