Europe's Best Footballers Immortalised As Fine Art Portraits

A new exhibition takes the idea of "football as an art form" one step further

To celebrate the launch of Sky's new channel dedicated to European football, Sky Sports 5, art mimic John Myatt has been comisioned for a range of portraits depicting Europe's best footballers in the style of their country's most famous painters.

The project features Juventus's Andrea Pirlo taking over from the Mona Lisa, a modernist take on Barcelona's Andres Iniesta in the style of Picasso's "Portrait Of Dora Maar" and England and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in the style of 18th Century British painter Joshua Reynolds (whose work, ironically enough, centred on the "idealisation of the imperfect").
