Tickets for Glastonbury 2016 may have sold out quicker than the time it takes to pitch a tent, but next year's lucky festival-goers are still none the wiser as to who will join Coldplay as headliners at Worthy Farm this June.

So with the rumour mill in full swing, we've pulled out 11 acts who have a very real chance of topping the Pyramid Stage come June 22 - 26. Don your wellies and wade in...

1. Adele

Bookies' odds: 5/1

Despite her fear of huge crowds, can the 27-year-old Tottenham singer really resist the opportunity to headline one of the most famous music events in the world? By June, new album 25 will have probably broken a hundred more records, sold gazillions of copies, and spent its 32nd week at the top the chart. There's no way the Eavis family won't try their damned hardest for a Pyramid Stage performance. Maybe get her drunk first?

2. Muse

Bookies' odds: 6/4

The Matt Bellamy-fronted rock band have been heavily rumoured for a headline slot at Glastonbury 2016, after opting for Download Festival instead earlier this year when their new album Drones was released. Their current world tour is travelling until June 14, meaning they'll be fully rehearsed and ready to go on June 24 when Worthy Farm opens its gates. Oh, and there's the small matter of bassist Christopher Wolstenholme basically saying they're really, really up for it in a recent interview.

3. The Stone Roses

Bookies' odds: 4/1

The Madchester group still owe Glastonbury a headline slot after they famously pulled out of topping the Pyramid Stage back in 1995. With a new album on the way, and some massive shows for Manchester already announced, the band look like they're gearing up for a very busy summer...

4. Miley Cyrus

Bookies' odds: N/A

Could the Worthy Farm crowd be full of foam fingers come June? In a recent interview, festival boss Michael Eavis failed to confirm or deny if Miley Cyrus would be performing  - even after it was reported the former Disney star is keen to play the event, upon the advice of friend, collaborator and Glasto veteran Wayne Coyne. Miley's latest album, My Dead Petz, showed she is a lot more than the pop sheen she's famous for, so it could just about work.

5. Rihanna

Bookies' odds: 40/1

Rihanna is no stranger to headlining festivals, having done V Festival, Big Weekend and Wireless in the past. Now that new album Anti is finally out there for fans and the fact there's a Glastonbury-shaped hole in her UK tour dates next summer, the Bajan star's mix of big pop hooks, Hollywood profile and fearless attitude would certainly light up the Somerset sky.

6. Fleetwood Mac

Bookies' odds: 16/1

Festival bosses Michael and Emily Eavis have kept it no secret that they are more than keen to book Fleetwood Mac for a Glastonbury singalong. It looked like the Stevie Nicks band were set to do it earlier this year, before it transpired they'd actually signed themselves up for the Isle of Wight Festival instead. However, there have been numerous tabloid reports that the British-American quintet are already locked in to head to Worthy Farm next year. Is this the year Team Eavis finally get their wish?

7. Prince

Bookies' odds: 40/1

Another round of Glastonbury rumours and yet another mention for Prince. It's been speculated that the Purple One would headline for years - and according to The Who, he was even supposed to play earlier this year before pulling out, leaving Daltrey & Co to replace him. But while there have obviously been discussions in the past, we'll only believe the symbol-loving pop bantam is doing it when we see him on that stage belting out 'Purple Rain'.

8. Elton John

Bookies' odds: N/A

Somehow, Glastonbury Festival has run for 45 years without once asking Elton John to play. The Watford-loving superstar recently admitted that he would only know if he wanted to do the gig once the question was put to him by the organisers. So with his 32nd studio album Wonderful Crazy Night now out there, what better time to set Elton up with a grand piano, a glitzy jacket and some suitably glamorous wellies.

9. Radiohead

Bookies' odds: 40/1

Having headlined Glastonbury twice since 1997, Radiohead certainly fit the bill when it comes to the returning act Michael Eavis has teased us all with. The band are currently finishing up their ninth studio album, and booking themselves in for a number of European festival shows this summer. Just don't ask them to perform 'Creep'. The last time a fan did, they were bluntly told: "F**k off - we're tired of it."

10. Ed Sheeran

Bookies' odds: 40/1

With the flame-haired singer-songwriter's latest album x selling its 10 millionth copy last year, as well as now holding the record for the most consecutive weeks spent in the UK Top 10, there's no doubt that Ed Sheeran is a future festival headliner. So, when during filming for TFI Friday, Chris Evans reportedly leaked that the 24-year-old would be topping the Pyramid Stage next year, the rumour quickly took hold. However, Ed has shot it down, saying that he wants to headline but it won't be until he has three or four albums under his belt. But is he just bluffing? Oh, who knows.

11. Foo Fighters

Bookies' odds: 14/1

The American rockers were all booked and ready to play last year's Glastonbury Festival, but Dave Grohl went and broke his foot, forcing them to pull out altogether. Shortly after that, Emily Eavis told us that Foo Fighters will definitely be back to headline Glastonbury one day, but it wouldn't be 2016. That said, the Eavises are very good at throwing everybody off the scent, and the rumour mill seems fairly sure the 'Best of You' band will be rocking Worthy Farm's foundations next summer.
