Third album from Malawian-Swedish duo The Very Best is less dependent on electronic embellishments than its precedessors, perhaps a reflection of the fact it was recorded in a village on the shores of Lake Malawi. Vampire Weekend’s Chris Baio – and some chirruping crickets – are among the contributors.

If you think Bop English is a ludicrous name, bingo. It’s actually James Petralli of Texan band White Denim, who made this jauntily inventive rock’n’roll record over four years; when finished, he says, he had skin like “a cave dwelling salamander”. We can assure him it was worth it.
