Including the best film of the year and the india come back you didn't know you wantedMore
Death, taxes and indie bands staging comebacks are three certainties in this life, so it's no surprise to see 2003 house party stalwarts Bloc Party make a much-vaunted return. The sound deviates from the visceral, sweat-drenched indie angst of the landmark Silent Alarm, with a more chart-friendly, electro sound present in their 5th studio album. Although it lacks the youtfhul fire of previous LPs, we have a feeling Hymns will be a fixture on plenty of playlists leading into the summer.
Hymns by Bloc Party is released on 29 January
A refreshingly non-Oscar baiting Best Film Oscar contender, Spotlight tells the true story of a team of Boston Globe reporters who, in 2001, undercovered the child sex abuse scandal that rocked the Catholic Church around the world. It's a simply told, utterly gripping story carried by a super ensemble that includes Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams and Mark Ruffalo (both up for Academy gongs too). It deserves all the prizes and plaudits it gets.
