In the world of Westeros, no one lets a silly thing like death get them down.

We've found lately in Game of Thrones that if we don't actually see someone die on screen, then there's always a chance we could see them return. This season, we gladly welcomed back The Hound, Jon Snow literally rose from the dead, and we were even treated to a comeback from Benjen Stark after five seasons in the woods.

So we've compiled a list of characters who could still make a return, either by not actually being dead after all, or just from being hidden away for far too long:

1. STANNIS BARATHEON

We're pretty certain that Stannis is very dead. Brienne wouldn't lie to us, right? But we didn't actually see her assassinate the supposed Prince That Was Promised. There's always a slim chance that she's hidden him somewhere for reasons only known to her. Or, if Melisandre was right all along, maybe he's "done a Jon" himself?

Chance of returning: 2/10

2. HODOR

This is purely wishful thinking, but we didn't see Hodor's actual death, did we? Probably because the director didn't want to put us through such horror. But perhaps Hodor summoned the strength to fight them off? Or, even more messed up, maybe he's now a White Walker? That bloody door.

Chance of returning: 4/10

3. SYRIO FOREL

Fans have been hoping for a surprise return from Arya's former fencing instructor Syrio since he 'died' off-screen way back in season one. He was presumed killed by Meryn Trant (though he really should have taken the lardy nonce). Arya got her revenge by killing Meryn in season five, but could Syrio have made it out? We thought he was coming back this season due to a lookalike's appearance in episode teasers, but alas it was just a mirage.

Chance of returning: 3/10

4. THE WAIF

Again, we never actually saw Arya kill The Waif on screen. She just suddenly appeared by Jaqen's side while The Waif's head was seen in the walls of the Faceless Men. But there's a rumour out there that it was actually Arya who was killed by The Waif and she did a swapsie. Surely not??

Chance of returning: 4/10

5. GENDRY

Nope, Gendry isn't dead (the last time we checked), but he's been gone for three bloody seasons. That's a long time spent rowing his way to King's Landing - although he did mention that he can't swim and had never used a boat before. Surely it's only a matter of time for the blacksmith bastard to make a comeback?

Chance of returning: 7/10

6. JON UMBER

Before the Umbers turned dicks by betraying the Starks and siding with the Boltons, they were led by the Greatjon. He was one of the few bannermen of House Stark to survive the Red Wedding, but his son Smalljon revealed to Ramsay that his father was now dead. A bit convenient, right? Apparently he "died on his own", but if we didn't see it, it didn't happen. Maybe.

Chance of returning: 2/10

7. SALLADHOR SAAN

Ah, the cheeky pirate lord who was desperate to have his way with Cersei. What happened to him? The last we saw of him was in season four after Davos gave him some dosh to come and fight with Stannis. So, did he? Did he die in battle? Is he still waiting for orders? He's got to come back at some point.

Chance of returning: 6/10

8. HOT PIE

The last time we caught up with Arya and Gendry's portly mate, he was baking bread with the Brotherhood without Banners. We've met the Brothers since then, but no sign of Hot Pie. Has he now got ripped? Did he escape? We'd love a reunion for the trio eventually.

Chance of returning: 5/10

9. CATELYN STARK

Lady Stoneheart, anyone? Yeah, probably not now.

Chance of returning: 2/10

10. NED STARK

We didn't actually see Ned's head get chopped off, right? Alright, we'll stop it.

Chance of returning: 0
