Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams is thought to have been a victim of internet hackers after semi-naked pictures of her posing topless have emerged online.

The images, which were being shared wildly on sites like Reddit over the weekend, are thought to have been stolen from a private social media account.

Some had speculated the images of the 19-year-old actress came from a Facebook page, and it was also thought that some of the pictures were taken during her recent trip to Japan.

The images show Maisie posing on a rock, while another is taken in stages with two other female friends removing their clothes.

The much more important reason Maisie has been on the trip to Japan has been to raise awareness around marine animal shows, in which dolphins are captured in order to perform.

She urged her social media followers to sign the petition to agree they won't buy any tickets for dolphin shows, along with the hashtag #ThanksButNoTanks.

She told Fox News: "It was something that just struck a chord in my heart.

"And I'm a firm believer that, if there is something that you really want to stand up and fight for, then you should.

"And with everyone doing their own little bit for what they believe in, hopefully together we can make the world a better place."

Numerous big names fell victim to the infamous hacking scandal from their cloud storage areas back in 2014, which included celebrities such as Kate Upton, Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco and Jennifer Lawrence.

Some of these stars pursued legal action and numerous publications vowed not to publish the images due to their invasion of privacy.

Digital Spy has reached out to Maisie Williams' people for comment and she has yet to address the images publicly.
