TV episodes can be censored for a variety of reasons: it's offensive to religions, too overtly sexual, or politically controversial are the usual reasons.
The nice folks over at Looper have done us the favor of documenting a number of television episodes that have been censored over the years. And you'll probably be surprised by some of the shows affected. Like the episode of Tiny Toons, where three underage characters get drunk off a single beer and die after they drive a stolen police car off a cliff. Pretty heavy stuff for a kid.
Or Peppa Pig, a children's television show that has been accused of "being a Marxist, Leninist, and feminist extremist." How could Peppa Pig offend any one? Her episode called "Mr. Skinny Legs" was about a spider who befriend's Peppa's family. It teaches kids that spiders are harmless, which is fine if you live in the United States or United Kingdom, but in Australia spiders can be deadly—think Black Widow spider—so the show was censored down under.
South Park, unsurprisingly, had an episode censored because it was offensive to religion, specifically Islam, and contained depictions of the Prophet Muhammad.
The video is an interesting journey through censorship that reminds us that sometime's censoring is silly, but sometimes, like when it affects a child's physical safety, it may be warranted.
