Ever noticed how presenters are taking over showbiz headlines for making mistake after mistake live on air? Well, perhaps it's not the hosts we should be focusing on. Seriously, next time your favourite show comes on, pay a little more attention to what's happening in the background.

From drug deals to couples having sex, we're in shock as to what's been unintentionally broadcast over the years. Just check this lot out:

1. The merchant banker

This banker from Sydney took skiving to a whole new level. Unaware he was in shot while a colleague at the Macquarie Bank gave a live TV interview on Australia's 7 News, instead of analysing spreadsheets as he should have been, the worker was seen sitting at his computer, opening various files of naked women while leisurely scrolling through an X-rated picture gallery.

When he eventually did realise he was on camera, the red-faced banker looked like a rabbit caught in headlights as he raced to delete the inappropriate snaps.

2. Olympic shaggers

It must be tricky being professional in the workplace while a couple are getting jiggy behind you. It's not a problem we've ever experienced, but BBC reporter Dan Walker has. And we're pleased to say he handled the situation like a true pro.

While delivering a live broadcast on location, he tried to ignore the overexcited couple behind him. But eventually, he had to address the situation as Twitter went into overdrive. Laughing it off, Dan joked: "As for those asking what's going on in the background on social media right now, we're not going to zoom in. But rest assured it is not 'that'. They are just having a cuddle. They are reading a book. They are reading a book in a strange pose!" We're not sure what goes down at his local library...

3. The husband and his other woman

Daniel Grundy had no intention of appearing on Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway with girlfriend Sue Brooker. Because his wife Helen was sitting at home. So you can imagine his face when they turned up for the wedding of Sue's sister Michelle, only to find out it was being broadcast live on the ITV series.

When she saw her hubby on TV, Helen Grundy slagged Daniel off on the show's Facebook page and the post went viral. He later defended himself, insisting he and Helen had split six years beforehand and that Sue had in fact been his wife for the last two years. Helen accused Daniel of bigamy, as they had never divorced.

Hopefully, the trio are a little clearer about their relationship statuses now.

4. No big deal?

Who needs CCTV when moments like this are broadcast live to an entire country? During an American Fox 25 news segment, these two men had no clue they were in shot as they carried out what appeared to be a drug deal.

While a reporter delivered all the latest on the New York snow storms, the pair were seen walking to meet each other in the centre of the screen before exchanging money and a rather peculiar package. They immediately then walked off in opposite directions as though they didn't know each other.

While the on-scene reporter was oblivious to what was going on behind him, the studio anchors saw everything and burst into laughter. Meanwhile, those watching at home flooded social media with clips of the bizarre scenes, which instantly went viral.

5. The nose-picker

We're not sure if the gentleman in this clip has any idea he was on live TV, but if does, he must be mortified. During America's live Hollywood Today show, he was seen standing outside the studios behind the presenters completely unaware he was in shot.

We're guessing the windows must have been mirrored because he then appeared to be staring at his reflection while picking his nose. We have a feeling he probably enjoyed the sight more than those tuning in at home.

6. A wee problem

This unnamed man must wish he could have held it in a little longer. But apparently, he couldn't and so decided to have a very public pee on the wheel arch of a horse truck at the Cheltenham Festival.

In case there was any doubt as to what he was up to, the man left a small stream running from the tyre. Big mistake. Unknown to him at the time, he was in shot of ITV's live coverage of the event, which was watched by thousands. Luckily, he didn't look directly at the camera as he walked off so those watching at home couldn't identify him. But surely someone out there must recognise him?

7. The benefits cheat

Gushing about her wonderful husband on MasterChef Goes Large is probably one of Luciana Byrne's biggest regrets. While we're sure her hubby is a perfectly decent bloke, she had told Basildon council that they were separated and therefore she had been falsely claiming benefits as a supposed single mother – £24,843.98 in housing benefit and £1,671.65 in council tax benefit to be exact.

When she appeared on the BBC show, a member from the council's investigation team recognised her. Following a court hearing, she was given an 11-month suspended sentence and ordered to carry out 150 hours' unpaid community service.

8. Got to catch 'em all

Okay, we get that Pokemon Go is an addictive game. But the last thing we expect during a live BBC political news broadcast is to see a grown man dressed in a business suit, clumsily wandering around in the background trying to catch 'em all.

Seriously, this guy clearly knew he was in shot because he looked directly into the camera lens at one point – but he just didn't care. We bet he did when he got back to the office though, after his colleagues spotted him on TV.

9. The A-lister

It's not just members of the public that make muppets of themselves on TV. Celebrities are guilty too. A few years ago, Lindsay Lohan was really miffed during an interview with radio hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O.

Midway through their telephone chat, which was broadcast live on air, the line mysteriously went dead. At the time, Lindsay insisted it was an accident. However, the whole thing was captured on her reality show, and when that was eventually broadcast, the world learned that Lindsay had angrily hung up. Busted.
