Piers Morgan suffered a wardrobe malfunction on Good Morning Britain today (12June).

Charlotte Hawkins was in the middle of reading a news broadcast when one of the buttons from his shirt pinged off and hit her.

At the time, she asked the host if the accessory belonged to him, but Piers denied it.

However, a viewer tuning in at home recorded the whole thing and posted the footage onto Twitter.

"We've now solved a mystery because earlier on in the show, I got hit by a flying button," Charlotte said. "I said to Piers did this come from you and you denied it, didn't you?"

A red-faced Piers admitted: "Yes, probably as a result from all the jerk chicken I ate over the weekend at the London Food Monthly event, my top button came off, then hung on my tie, then pinged towards Charlotte."

The clip was then broadcast live on the show.

Commenting on what happened, Susanna Reid joked that Piers's "chins" were to blame for the accident, which didn't go down too well with him.

Piers quipped: "That was fat-shaming! You said that and that is fat-shaming and now I feel bad. You are bringing out my anxiety. Here's poor old me being fat-shamed by my colleagues. They're just adding to my chronic insecurities.

"I'm going to give this shirt back to Debbie, who does our wardrobe. She clearly got the wrong size."

Charlotte then suggested they auction the shirt off instead to raise money – but Piers was too busy feeling sorry for himself to hear.

Good Morning Britain is on ITV, weekdays at 6am.
