The Handmaid's Tale just aired its final episode of season 1 in the US, and already Elisabeth Moss can't wait to see what's next.

A second season of the spookily relevant dystopian series was announced back in April, immediately followed by the confirmation that the next run would expand Offred's story beyond Margaret Atwood's source material.

And yes, Moss (aka Offred) is just as excited as you are to finally find out what happened to her character. It has been over 30 years in the making, after all.

"For me, as the biggest fan of the book, I'm just excited to see what happens," she told EW. "I want to know.

"When that book ends it's so frustrating because you're like, 'Wait, what the f**k happens to her?' You don't know anything.

"So the fact that we get to continue that story, when do you ever get to do that? That's so rare.

"As a fan of a book, to then get to continue the story? It doesn't happen. It's so cool."

During the interview, Moss also confirmed earlier comments that the second season would explore aspects of the novel that haven't yet been featured on TV.

"There's so many things that we haven't explored yet even from the book," she added. "So much text that we haven't gotten a chance to even say.

"And there's all these other pockets, all these other worlds that we haven't yet gotten to really explore.

"It's all very much up in the air, but as a fan of the book, I'm so looking forward to it."

And we shouldn't have *too* long to wait, with a 2018 release still very much on the cards.

"We're going back to shoot in September so chances are [it won't be delayed]," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "We don't want to keep audiences waiting that long."
