After that R + L = J theory pretty much confirmed Jon Snow is actually a Targaryen in the sixth season of Game of Thrones, it looks like his full birth name might have finally been revealed.

Naturally, it's Targaryen through and through.

Jon Snow was thought to be the bastard son of Ned Stark. However, last season revealed that he is actually the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Ned's sister Lyanna, who died during childbirth.

And in a feature spread for Empire ahead of the show's seventh season, it now appears we know Jon's real name.

Introducing: Jaehaerys Targaryen.

The piece in the magazine reads: "As we saw in the last episode of season 6, Bran's psychic time-travelling 'greensight' revealed the true nature of Jon's birth heritage and his real name: Jaehaerys Targaryen."

While this isn't exactly confirmation that Jon's real name is Jaehaerys (it's the first we've heard of it, and there's been no comment by anyone who works on the show), it would certainly be fitting, as he wouldn't be the first of his kind.

He would actually be the third Jaehaerys – and the previous two have been kings of the Iron Throne, so his chances for the big one now look rather promising.

The first Jaehaerys was the longest-reigning Targaryen king, and was also known as Jaehaerys the Conciliator, the wise and the old king.

The second Jaehaerys was the father of Mad King Aerys Targaryen and Daenerys's grandfather.
