After hinting repeatedly that he'd put Curb to rest once and for all after its 2011 series, the comedian finally struck a deal with HBO last year to make new episodes.

HBO's first teaser for season 9 pokes fun at the long wait, dressing up Larry as a modern Caesar and changing the classic mantra to: "He left. He did nothing. He returned."

It's far from true that Larry did nothing in his years away from Curb Your Enthusiasm. For starters, he roped in the likes of Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton and Kate Hudson for his 2013 HBO TV movie Clear History.

With the movie out the way, Larry then turned his eyes to Broadway to write and star in the comedy Fish In The Dark throughout much of 2015.

As if a Broadway play and a movie weren't enough to occupy his time, the comedian also returned to his alma mater at Saturday Night Live often over the last two years to play former US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.
