The term "spoiler" gets thrown around pretty loosely when it comes to Game of Thrones fans. "Oh, the actor who plays Gendry was seen in the Belfast airport! Spoiler alert!" But, honestly, that's pure speculation. There's no one definitively saying, "Yeah, Gendry is definitely coming back."
And that's what has been most of the conversation leading up to Game of Thrones's eventual return this Sunday. There have been months—nearly an entire goddamn year—of conjecture based on things as trivial as what Emilia Clarke was wearing while filming a CGI dragon scene. The Game of Thrones actors have—for the most part—been very, very good at keeping plot details secret.
That's what makes this comment from Game of Thrones costume designer Michele Clapton about Jon Snow's cape so explosive, comparatively:
We had a lot of discussions about does the cape give him presence or is it better to not have that presence? What are we trying to say? There are times when we removed it because we wanted him to be more vulnerable. Especially I think, when he saw Dany, and he went to see her for the first time in her chamber. We decided to remove it, but then when he went to see Cersei, we put it on.
While many fans agree that most characters will finally converge in the coming season, they don't have any conclusive evidence to support this theory—especially when everything in Game of Thrones moves so goddamn slow. Yet, here we have an insider on the show very directly confirming that in Season Seven Jon Snow will absolutely meet both Cersei and Daenerys.
