Someone else was almost cast as the bodacious rapping surfer dog Poochie on The Simpsons.

Josh Weinstein, co-showrunner at the time of 'The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show' episode, revealed a deleted scene on Twitter that showed a host of other characters auditioning, including Grampa Simpson.

And it turns out that grouchy bartender Moe Szyslak actually got the role, but turned it down.

"My name is Poochie. I'm a cute little doggie. All the kids love me – ugh, what a crock of crap. Forget it!" he tells studio executive Roger Myers Jr, who gives Moe the role only for him to storm out of the room.

One Twitter user noted the similarity to the end of Homer's audition where he gets confused if he has the job or not, with Weinstein saying that's probably why Moe's audition was cut from the episode.

Of course, given the fact that everybody hated Poochie, we're sure Moe isn't all that bothered at not getting the role.

Someone who does have a role in the next season of The Simpsons is Ed Sheeran who, following his Game of Thrones cameo, has been cast as a musician named Brendan in an episode that will spoof La La Land.
