Despite the relative naturalism of Game of Thrones – people get cold, complain and randomly die much more frequently than in most fantasy worlds – the world is absolutely packed with magic.

So, with the series magically returning this week, we've put together a guide to every single character who can chuck spells around or do other weird supernatural stuff.

1. The Faceless Men (including Arya, even though she's not properly one of them)

Essentially a religious cult of assassins, the Faceless Men worship the Many-Faced God, using their beliefs as an excuse to make loads of money from killing people.

Helpfully for them, they have the magic ability to shapeshift, transforming themselves into completely different people whenever they feel like it. Although you see them cutting the faces off the dead and wearing them, there's got to be more to their transformation than that or else we're talking Mission: Impossible levels of "COME OFF IT".

Jaqen H'ghar (Tom Wlaschiha) is probably the most significant Faceless Man on the show, even if he is a bit frustrating sometimes. And, according to a popular fan theory, he might have a more important part to play in the story. See the above video for more.

2. Melisandre

The most obvious practitioner of magic is Melisandre (Carice van Houten), mainly because she's done the biggest on-screen tricks.

She was revealed last season as an ancient woman using a magical necklace to pretend to be younger so she can seduce almost everyone she meets, including the audience. She's had plenty of time to develop her blood-magic skills, which include killing people by burning leeches filled with royal blood. It's debatable whether she had an unseen hand in the deaths of Robb Stark, Baelon Greyjoy and Joffrey, but there's no denying she gave birth to a full-blown shadow baby from the depths of her vagina which went on to murder Renly Baratheon.

She also drank poison in season 2 and didn't die.

Oh, and she also brought Jon Snow back to life, which was also sort of impressive, we guess.

3. Jon Snow

Speaking of Jon-Boy (Kit Harington), he has his own magic powers, even if they're not especially clear on the show (and are much more pronounced in the books).

You know how he is super close to his direwolf, Ghost? Well, in the books, he has a deeper connection. All of the Stark kids, (even Rickon), have a special bond with their direwolves, which allows them to "warg" into them – ie mentally inhabit their bodies.

While it's not a big deal on the show, we're including him mainly because some fans believe Jon was only brought back to life because he warged into Ghost before he died.

4. Thoros of Myr

Arguably equal to Melisandre power-wise, even if he doesn't get quite as much screen time, Thoros (Paul Kaye) has resurrected Lord Beric Dondarrion on several occasions (finding it much easier than Melisandre), can light his sword on fire using blood magic, and has given Beric the ability to do magic too.

He has MUCH more to do in the books (like resurrecting Lady Stoneheart), but we can't imagine he doesn't have a large role to play in the next couple of seasons.

5. The Three-Eyed Raven

We first meet the Three-Eyed Raven (Max Von Sydow) when he's tangled up in tree roots. Which doesn't seem like the most impressive magic power, but how about a little something called TIME TRAVEL?

Bran's mentor takes him on a journey through Game of Thrones' equivalent of a prequel trilogy, as Bran visits some of the most significant events from the past.

6. Pyat Pree

Qartheen warlock Pyat (Ian Hanmore) is a nasty piece of work who can use illusions to imprison people, which he does to Daenerys Targaryen so he can feed off the power of her dragons (who make magic stronger).

Unluckily for him, he didn't study the dragon user manual, and didn't realise that they might potentially flame-grill him if he pissed off their mother.

There are other warlocks in Qarth, but the show used him to stand for all of them.

7. Mirri Maz Duur

Is there anyone in Westeros who can't bring people back to life? Sadly, Mirri (Mia Soteriou) wasn't quite as good at it as Thoros and Melisandre, and when she brought Khal Drogo back from the dead, he was basically an idiot zombie. But it was kind of deliberate – she wanted revenge for the enslavement of her people – and Daenerys burned her alive for her troubles.

Some fans believe it was all a ruse by Mirri, with her true mission being to hatch the dragon's eggs, but we think she was just a bit of a dick.

8. Quaithe

Hiding behind a complex mask, Quaithe the Shadowbinder from Asshai (Laura Pradelska) appears to have powers of prophecy and clairvoyance. But with time travel now introduced to the series, maybe there's more to Quaithe than meets the eye – after all, why does she hide behind that mask?

We've only seen her once on the show, in season 2, but expect her to return at some point, unless the writers want to completely ignore this hanging plot point.

9. Jojen Reed

Jojen (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) has greensight, the power of prophetic dreams. It's basically the magical ability to perceive future, past, or contemporary (but distant) events in dreams.

The Greenseers of the Children of the Forest have this power, and some humans are also born with the ability.

Sadly, Jojen was lethally injured by wights and mercy-killed by his sister Meera – but not before he trained Bran how to use his sight.

10. Maggy The Frog

The woods witch was shown in a flashback predicting that Cersei would have three blonde children who would all receive crowns, then die.

Bang on the money, then, old Mystic Mags.

11. The Night King

He's made of ice and can raise the dead. Pretty cool.

12. Leaf

Leaf (left) and her fellow Children of the Forest were the earliest known inhabitants of Westeros and accidentally created the White Walkers when they used their magic against the invading humans but ended up losing control of their new weapon. Silly Leaf.

They also have fireball-type powers.

13. Bran Stark

Is there anything Bran can't do? He can Warg into beasts and Hodor and he has the greensight, which enables him to travel through time.

But Bran has an extra gift – it seems like he doesn't just possess the ability to travel through time, he can affect it – as Hodor learned to his cost.

*Sob*

With a power as potentially plot-significant as that, we have a feeling that Bran could end up being the most important Stark of them all.

14. The Pyromancers

Green, Photography, Art, pinterest

They kind of underplay this in the show, but the green explodey stuff, wildfire, isn't just a chemistry experiment – the pyromancers of King's Landing are an ancient, formerly powerful guild of alchemists whose only skill these days is the creation of wildfire (or in fact, storage of it, since they lost the ability to make it when the dragons supposedly died out).

15. Qyburn

Wrinkle, Portrait photography, Portrait, pinterest

Borderline, this one. Is he a magician or just a really good surgeon? Given that his patient, the former Ser Gregor, looks really, really dead – like, blue and rotten – when he takes off his helmet, we're going with magician.

16. Daenerys
