In case you didn't know, the BBC was forced to reveal the pay of some of its highest-earning stars as part of new government plans announced – and it depressingly revealed a massive gender pay gap between male and female celebrities.

The report showed that the top-paid male stars earned more than four times the salary of the highest-earning woman with BBC Radio 2 DJ and former Top Gear host Chris Evans coming out on top – raking in between £2.2m and £2.25m in 2016/2017 – while Strictly Come Dancing's Claudia Winkleman, the BBC's highest-paid female celebrity, only earned between £450,000 and £500,000.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain today, Trisha Goddard spoke about the gender pay gap controversy, saying: "It's done agent-by-agent for one thing, so I guess it depends on who's the favourite agent. You get what you think is best for your client."

As Susanna Reid noted that Clare Balding only receives between £150,000 and £199,999 compared to fellow sports presenter Gary Lineker, who is on £1.75 million, she asked Trisha if they should both be paid the same for working equally as hard as each other.

The 59-year-old chat show host then turned to Susanna and questioned whether she's paid the same as her co-host Piers Morgan.

"I'm guessing you and Piers get paid the same?" she said.

And after an awkward pause, Susanna laughed it off and insisted: "We wouldn't know because we don't have the same transparency requirements!"

Although, it appears Piers Morgan revealed his salary by choice on Twitter.

It comes after BBC Director General Lord Hall – who yesterday was revealed to earn between £450,000 and £499,999 – said the findings reveal that the BBC has to "go further and faster" on gender issues, but that the corporation was "pushing faster than any other major broadcaster".
