"I'm delighted that audiences are also going to be able to enjoy its dark and thought provoking second season."

Since the season one finale in the US, the cast and crew have been teasing what to expect in season two, which will see the show move past Margaret Atwood's novel.

Showrunner Bruce Miller has recently said that the new season will tackle the show's race problem after he was inspired by critical discussions online, while he has also confirmed that we will be seeing Offred's mother – and Drake might make an appearance.

"I'll drop that notion into the ear of Bruce Miller, the showrunner, and see what he can do with that because of course the show is filmed in Toronto. Maybe Drake could help smuggle someone?"

"What Margaret says goes," Miller responded. "He's spectacular. He'd fit right in – we have a fun and smart and creative cast. I think he would have a good time."

Incredible.

Elsewhere, the series received an impressive 13 Emmy Award nominations including a lead actress nomination for Elisabeth Moss.

The Handmaid's Tale airs on Hulu in the US and Channel 4 in the UK.
