The first series hasn't even aired yet, but Sky Atlantic already has a good feeling about its latest big-name drama.

The channel has renewed brand new revenge thriller Tin Star for a second series, days before the first premieres this week.

The series stars Tim Roth as British cop-turned-small-town-sheriff Jim Worth, who tries to escape his past and protect his family.

Of course, small town TV thrillers tend to do well, what with the likes of Stranger Things, Fargo and Twin Peaks all firm favourites. The latter has just finished its critically-acclaimed third season, so we imagine Sky is banking on Tin Star filling that gap.

The series also has a pretty great cast joining Roth, with Mad Men's Christina Hendricks, The Casual Vacancy's Abigail Lawrie, True Blood's Christopher Heyerdahl, Orphan Black's Kevin Hanchard and Star Wars' Genevieve O'Reilly all taking part.

"When Tin Star launches this week, Sky Atlantic viewers will not only experience a hugely powerful tale of revenge with captivating, uncompromising characters, but will be left in no doubt as to why a second series was an absolute must," said Anne Mensah, head of drama at Sky.

Tin Star creator Rowan Joffe and executive producer Alison Jackson added: "Rowan and I are thrilled to have another opportunity to delve deeper into the world we have all started to create – there is so much more to reveal about our fantastically complex array of characters."

Tin Star's entire first series of 10 episodes will be available only on Sky Atlantic and TV streaming service NOW TV in the UK and Ireland from Thursday (September 7).
