Star Trek: Discovery isn't the only show going where no man has gone before this autumn — Black Mirror is headed to the vastness of space too.

One of two brand new photos from Charlie Brooker's notoriously bleak dystopian sci-fi series foreshadows that one upcoming episodes will parody, or at least reference, Star Trek.

In the photo above, you can see a crew of familiar faces on the bridge of a spaceship, wearing brightly covered uniforms not unlike those from the classic '60s Star Trek series.

Or at least that's what we think is going on. Given that Black Mirror loves to pull the rug out from under viewers, it's never wise to speak in absolutes about upcoming episodes.

This episode, titled 'USS Callister', features a crew manned by Breaking Bad's Jesse Plemons (in the captain's chair), Michaela Coel (Chewing Gum), Jimmi Simpson (Westworld) and Cristin Milioti (How I Met Your Mother). There's not a Klingon or Cardassian in sight, but we definitely wouldn't put it past Charlie Brooker to spoof some of Star Trek's classic aliens too.

Netflix has also released a photo from another upcoming episode, 'Arkangel'.

In the photo above, Rosemarie DeWitt (La La Land) takes a little girl in for a seemingly uncomfortable medical test of some kind. 'Arkangel' will open the series, and is directed by Jodie Foster.

Both images certainly lend credence to Charlie Brooker's previous promise that Black Mirror's fourth series will be its most ambitious yet.

"I think there's quite a lot of stuff that's quite out there," he promised. "I don't know if I've lost touch with reality, or what.

"But then what often tends to happen is I think, 'Oh my god, this is completely and utterly far-fetched', and then reality catches up... I think I was so terrified about the state of the world, I thought I'm going to entertain myself by having some kooky thoughts."
