Bill Clinton's forthcoming novel The President Is Missing, which he co-wrote with James Patterson, will be adapted into a series on Showtime. The cable network announced today that it has acquired the rights to the novel, which sparked a bidding war earlier this year when it was announced.

Since the novel won't be released until next June, it's unsurprising that details are pretty thin on the ground otherwise—no writers or producers are attached yet, and it's not clear whether the show will be a multi-year deal or a one-shot miniseries.

The novel's plot is shrouded in secrecy, but per Showtime's press release it tells "the startling story of a sitting U.S. president's disappearance, with the level of detail that only someone who has held the office can know—generating a powerful, one-of-a-kind thriller. Though fictional, the story brings to life the pressures and realities of the most important position in the world... a gripping tale of power and betrayal, with a unique perspective on the pressures and stakes faced by a sitting president." In other words, it's gonna be real fun trying to read between the lines here.

This is not the only Clinton content coming to the small screen soon. History is developing a scripted miniseries about Bill Clinton's impeachment, while season four of Ryan Murphy's Feud will focus on the president's affair with Monica Lewinsky.
