Nicholas Lyndhurst has revealed his late Only Fools and Horses co-star Lennard Pearce once came face-to-face with Adolf Hitler.

Speaking on the concluding episode of The Story of Only Fools and Horses which airs tomorrow (3 October) on UKTV Gold, Lyndhurst – who played Rodney Trotter on the hit BBC sitcom – revealed that Pearce once told him about an encounter he had with the Nazi leader.

According to Lyndhurst, Pearce – who played Grandad on the show before his death in 1984 – met Hitler when he was a young actor touring in Europe.

And, had he known then what Hitler would become, Pearce said he would have done his "best to kill him".

"He was a young actor touring Europe and they were playing some German city and the Nazis walked in," Lyndhurst said.

"The top honchos of the Nazi Party had seen the play and came to congratulate them afterwards. Lennard shook hands with Adolf Hitler.

"He only ever told me once, but he said, 'Had I known then what I know now, I would have drawn the pistol from one of the bodyguards and I'd have done my best to kill him'."

As well as that unbelievable anecdote, The Story of Only Fools and Horses will also air clips from a never-before-seen episode of the sitcom.

Titled 'Licence to Drill', the episode sees Del Boy (David Jason) tank another get-rich-quick scheme when he buys an oil rig for the 'bargain' price of £400, only to realise there's not much oil in Peckham and he's been massively conned.

The Story of Only Fools and Horses concludes tomorrow night (3 October) on UKTV Gold.
