You might not want to believe it, but Gillian Anderson is apparently closing the door on Agent Scully after The X-Files wraps up season 11.

Gillian admitted at New York Comic-Con that she was ready to say goodbye to one half of the world's most iconic FBI partnership.

According to Screen Rant, when asked if she would be interested in signing up for another season beyond the upcoming run, Gillian said: "No, no, I think this will be it for me."

Explaining that the new six-part series had to happen as the story "wasn't over", the actress added that the door may well be closed, but not necessarily locked.

When asked if she would miss Dana Scully (erm, duh), she said: "You may need to talk to me in a few years about that once I finally shut the door!

"You know, there's always been this 'maybe one more' thing hanging over, but when the door is finally shut, call me up and ask me that question again."

Interestingly, a representative from FOX has since confirmed hat Gillian "has not commented on returning as it's premature in that she is currently filming the new event series".

So, it's all about as clear as what's going on with the Lone Gunmen, then.

The X-Files is expected to return in 2018, but you can watch season 11's brand new trailer right here, right now:
