Last year's Blair Witch Project sequel-cum-spin-off didn't exactly set the world alight like its source material, but don't think the Blair Witch train stops there.

Because, apparently, a Blair Witch TV series might be in the works. And if it isn't in the works, it's at the very least an idea that is being entertained by the original film's creators.

Yes, in news that might be even more terrifying than the Blair Witch herself, co-creator Eduardo Sanchez has revealed that a TV series could be "the next big thing".

Appearing on the Diminishing Returns podcast, Sanchez said that a spin-off show would be "a very natural thing" to pursue, but not necessarily right.

When asked if any potential series would be an anthology prequel or follow a format more familiar to the original, Sanchez admitted he couldn't "really discuss" it.

"I think that the idea of a Blair Witch anthology has always been very – just a really interesting thing. You're close. You're in the ballpark," he said.

"The more you think about it, you're like 'That might be the perfect… a TV show.' So, we'll see what happens, but I think that's the next big thing for Blair Witch. Probably TV."

If the Blair Witch does come to our small screens, then perhaps the team can re-create some of the movie's discarded endings.

Although the film's final scenes are seared into horror history (and our minds, sadly), the ending was almost replaced with something "more definitive".

But probably not more terrifying.
