He's loud, petty and obnoxious, and over eight glorious seasons of television, Larry David's developed an unrivalled talent for making us squirm on our sofas.

Since the return of season 9 earlier this month, fans of Curb Your Enthusiasm have been once again getting their weekly fix of Larry's most brilliantly bad blunders. But are we forgetting his most epically awkward moments from seasons passed?

Here are 7 to reminisce about immediately.

1. Michael J. Fox and the sad violin (S8 E10)

Larry and Michael J. Fox get off to a bad start when Fox (who lives in the apartment above Larry) keeps him up all night by 'clomping' around in a special pair of boots designed to help him when his feet cramp up - a painful side effect of Parkinson's disease. Larry then makes it his mission to prove that Fox is lying about his Parkinson's symptoms in order to rile him up. The episode accumulates with one of the most painfully awkward scenes of the show, in which Larry accidentally makes a violin sign during Fox's speech about Parkinson's Research and is banned from New York by the mayor himself. Watch and weep.

2. The first period drama (S8 E1)

If there's one person's house who you really don't want to start your period in, it's Larry David's. When an unfortunate girl scout selling cookies has a female emergency at Larry's house, he rushes to her aid. What happens next is Larry helpfully shouting out instructions through the bathroom door as he uses his armpit as an applicator guide. So helpful.

3. The ring stain (S7 E10)

With their marriage in tatters, Larry finally convinces wife Cheryl to give their relationship another go. But while they're on the brink of getting back together during a romantic night in at Larry's, he notices Cheryl leaving a ring stain on his coffee table. Outraged, he asks his wife: "Do you respect wood?" before demanding she phones mutual friend Julia to 'fess up and take responsibility for another ring stain Larry previously got the blame for. Deliciously painful to watch.

4. The popcorn scene (S8 E8)

Larry has a particular talent for offending women, and this scene portrays that knack perfectly. While on a cinema trip with an inventor he's keen to work with and his wife, Larry refuses to let the wife hold his popcorn while he goes to the toilet from fear she'll eat it all. What ensues is an extremely uncomfortable conversation in which Larry offends everyone in the room.

5. The bluetooth guy (s6 E7)

There's nothing more annoying than someone having an extremely loud phone conversation within earshot - even worse if they're one of those 'hands-free guys'. Thankfully, Larry's never been a man to put up with that kind of behaviour, and in this scene, we see him shoot down a guy on a bluetooth headset in the most brilliant - yet excruciatingly uncomfortable - way. On this occasion, Larry was a total hero.

6. The party excuse (S6 E1)

Looking for an excuse to get out of a party/lunch/dinner invitation? Larry's got a whole army of them. Unfortunately for the antisocial comic, his elaborate excuses normally backfire. When Larry tries to get out of going to a party at the Funkhousers' (and later at the Dansons') by 'accidentally' showing up a day late, he and Cheryl find themselves getting some serious payback.

7. The model girlfriend (S4 E2)

When the blind pianist working on a project with Larry and Ben Stiller introduces Larry to his girlfriend (who he thinks is a model), Larry takes it upon himself to set the record straight. What follows is one seriously cringe-worthy conversation where Larry breaks the news to his companion that he might not be dating who he thinks he is... And let's just say it goes as well as you would expect.
