Game of Thrones is heading into its final season – but for some actors, it's probably the right time for the show to come to an end.

Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, has admitted that filming for the HBO fantasy epic has prevented her from pursuing projects that she would love to be involved in.

"I'm really excited for Game of Thrones to finish, and there's going to be time for me to do whatever I want," she told BBC Newsbeat at the British Independent Film Awards nominations event.

"That's just incredibly exciting, and it will be nice to pick roles that I want to do.

"I can show the world what sort of actress I want to be and shape my career a little bit."

Maisie added that a big passion of hers lies in independent movies.

"I've just started a production company, so I'm now realising how hard the industry can be," she said.

"Coming back here and listening to all the films nominated and getting back into watching independent films just makes me realise how much I miss it.

"It's the only place I've ever really wanted, to be to be honest."

Filming for the final episodes of Game of Thrones has yet to begin, but Maisie's co-star Kit Harington (who plays Jon Snow) recently revealed that he knows everything about season eight.

"I cried at the end!" he said.

"It wasn't anything particular that happens. You have to remember, I've done eight years of it. I think, no-one really cares about [Game of Thrones] more than us."
