We have had a hell of a lot of build-up for the new season of Black Mirror, but still nothing about when exactly we would actually be seeing the new episodes.

Well, worry no more as Netflix has finally given us a release date for season four of Charlie Brooker's dystopian anthology series – and the best news is it's only a few weeks away.

So, mark your diaries everyone, as the new episodes will drop on Friday, 29 December.

Netflix announced the news with a supercut trailer of the entire season, having previously teased the episodes individually over the past few weeks with a series of trailers.

Those episodes are 'Arkangel', 'Crocodile', 'Hang the DJ', 'USS Callister', 'Metalhead' and 'Black Museum' – and going by what we have seen so far, the show remains as dark and disturbing as we have come to expect.

Brooker recently revealed that season four would push the line between fantasy and reality "even further".

"I remember when we started doing season three, which was the first Netflix season, I said to myself that people always think we're predicting the future and that we weren't this time around," he said. "I felt that it was so far-fetched."

Brooker added: "So I keep thinking that this next season is pushed even further and there's no way.

"But you can bet within five minutes, Elon Musk is going to pop up with something. We should basically be in product or app design and should be patenting these things."
