Didn't you hear? Netflix is taking over the world. The steady increase of their own programming under their Originals brand has seen cult shows like Narcos, Stranger Things and House of Cards enjoy rampant success on the streaming service.
Unsurprisingly they are keen to expand their own content production on the site and have announced their ambition to make half its content original programs in 2017. This means around 1,000 hours worth of content like documentaries, films and series.
Making all that isn't going to come cheap and Buzzfeed US have reported the company has a $6 billion budget to finance content, original and otherwise.
The funding isn't without reason, Netflix are growing rapidly thanks to their exclusive content, it has attracted 370,000 new users in the US and 3.2 million overseas in the last three months. The company made a $52 million profit in the last quarter, somewhat modest when you consider this is based on $2.3 billion in revenue.
One of the new routes the streaming service is taking will be to take a slice of the award season action. They have recently announced a deal to start showing its exclusive films in cinemas on the same day as their online streaming service. You'll never need to leave the house on weekends again.
