*Spoilers, of course, lie ahead.*

It was a victory for those of us who read the instructions in this week's episode of Game Of Thrones as Samwell Tarly was able to cure Ser Jorah Mormont of greyscale after swotting up on medical texts.

Despite being forbidden to do so by Archmaester Ebrose, Sam chips away at Jorah's scaley chest and several days later is cured.

After seeing his miraculous recovery, the archmaester isn't buying Sam and Jorah's pathetic explanation that the greyscale just "went away". However instead of chastising Sam, he unexpectedly praises his actions, telling him, "that man is alive because of you."

Fans were disappointed when instead of a pint of mead and rabbit leg as a reward, Sam was given a load of copying to do for the maester. The Thrones equivalent of having to do lines.

However, as Reddit user points out, there might be a very sneaky gift in there after all:

"These books and documents are thousands of years old"

"They're all about the Long Night"

"He's letting Sam read them. This way he won't be breaking the rules."

"(Paper mites are an imaginary pest species that do not eat flesh)"

Though most fans were outraged on Sam's behalf

Only the eagle-eyed spotted what was going on

Looks like we'll have to wait to see what Sam discovers in those scrolls.
